These verses can be appropriate to use on Valentine's Day, or other occasions as well.

This collection was first written in May of 2012.

I published it 11 years later in February 2023 with some revisions.


This collection is grouped around different themes.

I wrote some of them with gratitude and thanks in mind, since this is the purpose of the website.

Roses are red, Violets are blue, I want to say A big thank you! Roses are red, Violets are blue, Thanks be to God, And to you too. Roses are red, Violets are blue, To God for such beauty. Much thanks are due.

Roses are red, Violets are blue, Such inspiration, To God is due. Roses are red, Violets are blue, To God for creation, Many thanks are due.

- FUNNY -

Roses are red, Violets are blue, Inhale the smell, And say, "Ha-choo!" Roses are red, Violets are blue, Did you just sneeze? Then God bless you!

Roses are red, Violets are blue, Gold, yellow, white, And other colors too. Roses are red, Violet means purple, Whoever said blue, Was quite confused.

- LOVE / VALENTINE -

Roses are red, Violets are blue, God made them all, Especially you! Roses are red, Violets are blue, I'm thinking how Much I miss you! Roses are red, Violets are blue, A kiss I send (give) From me to you. Roses are red, Violets are blue, I'd rather be dead, Than be without you.

Roses are red, Violets are blue, You're in my heart, I'm thinking of you. Roses are red, Violets are blue, When I see them, I think of you. Roses are red, Violets are blue, I'm color blind, And so are you.

- MARRIAGE -

Roses are red, Violets are blue, I'm happy to say, To you, "I do." Roses are red, Violets are blue, My heart now beats, With love for you.

Roses are red, Violets are blue, I give my heart, My life to you!

- ANNIVERSARY -

Roses are red, Violets are blue, We promise love, Our vows renew. Roses are red, Violets are blue, I'm glad I said To you, "I do."

Roses are red, Violets are blue, I am so glad I said, "I do!" Roses are red, Violets are blue, Over the years, How our love grew!

- FAMILY -

Roses are red, Violets are blue, A hug let's give Between me and you! Roses are red, Violets are blue, A hug I send From me to you.

Roses are red, Violets are blue, Over the years, How our family grew!

- FRIENDSHIP -

Roses are red, Violets are blue, I'm just asking, So how are you? Roses are red, Violets are blue, My heart is uplifted, By the sight of you.

Roses are red, Violets are blue, Over these years, How our friendship grew.

- COMPLIMENT -

Roses are red, Violets are blue, They look real nice, And so do you. Roses are red, Violets are blue, You're better than, The grandest view.

Roses are red, Violets are blue, You look better than, The grandest view.

- WINTERTIME BLUES -

Roses are red, Violets are blue, A few days they bloom, But you always do. Roses are red, Violets are blue, Should they not bloom, You always do.

Roses are red, Violets are blue, They quickly fade, But never may you!

- APOLOGY -

Roses are red, Violets are blue, I'm very sorry, For offending you.

Roses are red, Violets are blue, Please forgive me, For forgetting you.

The last line can be adapted (for hurting you, for being rude to you, for embarrassing you, etc.)

- CHURCH -

Roses are red, Violets are blue, Welcome to church! Here is your pew.

Roses are red, Violets are blue, God give you much grace Here in your pew.

- PATRIOTIC -

Roses are red, Violets are blue, Salute the flag, Red white and true.

Roses are red, Violets are blue, The stars are white, Our flag flies true.

Roses are red, Violets are blue, You're the best, One of the few!

- FOR GARDENERS -

Roses are red, Violets are blue, Such beauty so rare, Appreciated by few. Roses are red, Violets are blue, Give them some time, They'll compost too. Roses are red, Violets are blue, Give them some time, They'll turn to goo.

Roses are red, Violets are blue, In the day's heat, They fade quickly too. Roses are red, Violets are blue, In the hot sun, They shrivel too.

- MORNING -

Roses are red, Violets are blue, Fair is the morning, Fresh as the dew. Roses are red, Violets are blue, Rise, it's morning, There's lots to do!

Roses are red, Violets are blue, The sun is shining, There's so much to do.

- DINNERTIME -

Roses are red, Violets are blue, What's for dinner? Let's have some brew!

Roses are red, Violets are blue, But for right now, Please pass the stew!

- SYMPATHY -

Roses are red, Violets are blue, They share your loss, When (y)our loved one flew. Roses are red, Violets are blue, They want to shed, Some tears with you. Roses are red, Violets are blue, Together we shed Some tears with you.

Roses are red, Violets are blue, They tell of loss, and life anew. Roses are red, Violets are blue, They simply tell, Of life anew.

- WHICH WAY? -

Few very like, Prophet "A" was Moses, Blue are Violets, Red are Roses.

Roses are red, Violets are blue, Moses was a prophet, Like very few.

A Story about these "Roses are Red" Poems

These verses, which I had written in May of 2012, but had never gotten around to publishing, were providentially discovered as I was looking to re-publish the Valentine's Day section of this website.

So now they're finally being published almost 11 years later - in February 2023 - thanks to the good graces, help, and blessings of Heaven!

I hope you enjoy and find some inspiration in these verses.
