An "On Your Birthday" Poem

Is it your own birthday?

Here is a poem for you.

• Congratulate - or remember - our parents, for helping God bring us into this world.

So special thanks to you, Heavenly Father!

And special thanks to you, Mom and Dad!


This original birthday poem helps us appreciate the very special day we were born, whether it was 10 years ago - 50 years ago - or even 100 years ago.


38. What if you hadn't ... ?

You'd never see the sunrise,
Or hear the birds each morn,
No presents to open, not one surprise,
If you hadn't first been born.

You'd never eat a birthday cake,
Or take a drink to slake your thirst,
You'd never walk, or nice friends make,
If you hadn't been born first.

You couldn't climb a fence or tree,
No playing now and then,
No talking between you and me,
If born you hadn't been.

No dreams to make, no goals to reach,
No way to travel the earth,
Up in the hills or down at the beach,
If you were missing your birth.

No games to play, no place to hide,
Hats and clothes could never be worn,
No train to catch, no bus to ride,
If you hadn't first been born.

You'd never read a book or letter,
You couldn't hear a story or song,
You wouldn't write or spell the better,
If you first hadn't come along.

No things to touch, no flowers to smell,
No nose, not even a maybe,
No songs to sing, no stories to tell,
If you hadn't been first a baby.

And so we celebrate, and hug, and kiss,
The party's on - the banner's unfurled,
Think of all the fun we'd miss,
If you hadn't come into this world.

Congratulations to your parents,
And thank the Good Lord too,
Because of them, we now can say,
Happy --21st--50th-- Birthday to you !

(If you're the parents of the birthday
child, the last verse could read:)

We're proud (glad, blessed) to be your parents,
We thank the Lord for you,
Because of Him, we now can say,
Happy --5th--18th-- Birthday to you !

A Poem of Reflection and Appreciation

We have so much to be grateful for.

We owe our life and existence to God our Creator, and to our parents, who helped God in his work.

We have so much to be grateful for besides, but none of it would be possible without God and our our parents.

Let us not take them for granted. We need to thank them - especially God - more often than once in awhile.

Birthdays are a great opportunity to show them our appreciation, so ...
