St Patricks Day Poems
St Patricks Day Verses - St Patricks Day Poetry
I wrote these short St Patricks Day poems as limericks - most of them as prayers - to honor in a special way the faith and courageous example of Saint Patrick, the missionary to Ireland, who lived in the 4th and 5th century.
Because of his work, Ireland for centuries afterward sent missionaries throughout Europe and the rest of the world, including the United States of America.
I just had to write these poems on March 17th. Which is a bit late for the year 2011, but they should be good to go for years to come, you think?
Saint Patrick Day Poems
by Paul Berchtold, March, 2011
100. Prayer of Protection
O Patrick in the faith a giant,
Standing up to foe defiant,
Protect our land,
With your kind hand,
Upon your prayers we are reliant.
101. Shamrock Prayer
O little clover with leaf so green,
Symbol of the great Unseen.
Keep our hearts in peace serene.
102. Gratitude Prayer
A thanks to Good Saint Patrick,
Hearing prayers, curing the sick,
Health for the soul,
Is the real goal,
Please ask God for it right quick!
103. More Thanks
Thanks to Patrick, whose protection,
God grants with special election,
To bring our prayers
And all our cares,
Before God's vast perfection.
104. When Facing Challenges
Saint Patrick shows us how to trod,
In hardship times to faithful plod,
And smash the snakes,
And all the fakes,
With help of truth and grace of God.
105. Worth More than a Pot of Gold
Saint Patrick's one the devils hate,
God helped cast them to hellish fate,
By Patrick's courage,
Broke sins' bondage,
And to the Irish opened heaven's gate.
106. I's wishing I was Irish !
O how I wish to be Irish,
Join in the fun and the food dish,
But I can today,
To Patrick, Saint of the "I wish".
God hears every wish under the sun,
Every wish is good as done,
Heaven won't let,
You ever forget,
You'll get it - or heaven would be no fun.

St Patricks Day Poems - Children get their Wishes
This last poems reminds me of the faith of children. How they don't give up hope of dreaming great things, what we adults would think impossible.
Yes, in heaven you can be whatever you want to be, provided you come in as children.
Because, unless you become as little children, you cannot enter the kingdom of heaven. (Matthew 18:3)
Thank your stars, their little lights, make the night so magic bright.
